Harvey's Towans - Hayle

Tucked away around the corner from the rest of Hayle Towans beaches is this little stretch of sand known as Harvey's Towans.

The word 'towans' is the old Cornish word for sand dunes, and there are plenty of those along Hayle's '3 miles of golden sands'. As for the 'Harvey' part this refers to the family who were responsible for much of Hayle's development around the harbour to serve Harvey’s Foundry which was fed by the surrounding tin mines.

Just out of view is the River Hayle which forms a fairly narrow channel between the beach here and Lelant on the far side.
