This is particularly good to see, as the flag at the trees is a sign of respect when visiting a foreign port.

Re: More English Twistory to Come!

I see that our friends in Scotland are introducing a course in all their secondary schools dealing with Scottish history and culture.

And so they should.

We in Wales and you in Cornwall need the same.

Re: Second "Homes"

If you could set up a meaningful group to occupy "second homes", put in local families and collect fair rents from them to be held in trust for the property owner, then you might have a very strong moral case.

with regard to the saxe-coburg-gothas, might I recommend pennyroyal shampoo. It works wonders in getting rid of parasites from my dogs.

Re: Arch druid of Wales in call to reject Britishness

Because the word has become debased, I refuse the description "British" of myself. I am Welsh (of part-Cornish descent). As for the olympic games - they have nothing to do with sport and everything to do with the further promotion of multi-national commercial enterprise. I have no interest in any fl...

Re: Jordan family in Germoe

Thanks to an American member of the extended family, I have now got one generation further back. The parents of my Thomas were Hugh and Ann. No dates, but Hugh must have been born around 1660; so perhaps only two generations down from Hugh of Helston. I wonder? (It would make a great book to write t...

"English Parliament" there is no such thing, the English don't have their own parliament There is a parliament which makes laws which apply only within England. I think that is a good definition for an English parliament. That the English do not have the nous to exclude foreigners from it is anothe...

I think that is the United Kingdom, not Great Britain, which is a geographical rather than a cultural or national entity.

Maybe us Welsh don't want a lot of truculent Cornish Nationalists attached to us. But more seriously, the idea isn't a goer because we are a different nation with a different history. I am sure that all of us who support the nationalist cause in Wales also support your nationalist cause. We see simi...

IMO, there's no such thing as a second home. By definition, your home is where you live. Taking residential property into this ghost area of intermittent occupation should be subject to change of use planning permission, with refusal the presumed outcome unless a compelling case can be made. The sit...

There cannot be any requirement for new-build houses in a place where so many of the existing properties lie empty for huge chunks of the year.

Re: incinerator given go-ahead

It's happening here in Wales, too. The village of Bodelwyddan is tripling in size to form a dormitory for Merseyside.

There might well be a housing shortage, but it sure as hell isn't here, or, I suspect, in Cornwall. (Affordable housing for locals excepted, of course)
